Contextual Categories
Categories are similar to equipment types, but offer greater flexibility for organizing equipment by various criteria. Typical categories might include make, model, size, color, or any other classification system relevant to your needs. Each category is a group of selectable values, and an item can have values from several categories at once.
Setting Up Categories
To manage categories, select Filters > Categories in the main menu. The Edit categories dialog opens:
- Click Add category and enter a group name (for example: make, model, size, or color)
- Click Add value on a category to add its selectable values
- Use the rename and delete icons on each group or value to reorganize them
Assigning Category Values to Items
To assign categories to an item:
- Open the item page
- Select the Settings tab, then the Categories section
- Tick the applicable values for each relevant category — changes are saved immediately
You may select multiple values per category when necessary. You can also assign categories directly when adding an item, and change them for many items at once with the batch edit tools on the items list.
Filtering by category
Once assigned, categories appear in the Filter by dropdown on the items list, so you can narrow the list to items with specific category values.
